Travel Updates and Resources Relating to COVID-19 for Shenandoah, Texas

The overall risk of COVID-19 in the United States to the general public remains low at this time. While one case is now confirmed in Montgomery County, no infections have been confirmed in Shenandoah, TX to date. There are no travel restrictions or advisories in the domestic U.S., including travel to Texas or the greater Houston area.

Travelers to the North Houston area – and all destinations – should continue to observe the health recommendations of national and local public health officials, as they go about planning their travel, when and where. Travelers to the North Houston area should know that Visit Shenandoah and the City of Shenandoah are in close contact with area public health officials and elected officials, as well as with our national travel associations, and we will actively communicate with visitors if the situation changes.

Does Visit Shenandoah have a message for travelers?

Travelers to the North Houston area – and all destinations – should continue to observe the health recommendations of national and local public health officials, when they are traveling and visiting any destination. Travelers to Shenandoah, Texas, should know that the City of Shenandoah, and Visit Shenandoah are in contact with regional public health officials and elected officials, as well as with national travel associations, and will actively communicate with visitors if the situation changes.

Is it safe to travel to North Houston / State of Texas?

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has consistently advised the public to practice every-day preventative measures to help stop the spread of germs, as typical in the current flu and respiratory disease season. There are currently no travel restrictions or advisories in the domestic U.S., which includes Shenandoah, greater Houston, or the state of Texas.

Are there any closures of note for visitors to the Houston area, such as attractions, hotels, restaurants or meeting venues?

No, there are no such closures related to COVID-19. Shenandoah is open for business and welcomes visitors. Popular attractions, hotels, restaurants, shopping centers and the Shenandoah Visitor Center are open and functioning normally. As is true in every other American city, citizens and visitors alike are asked to observe public health recommendations wherever they are. These universal recommendations include washing your hands, refraining from touching your face and staying home if you’re sick, among others.

What actions are Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and Hobby Airport (HOU) taking to ensure the safety of passengers and guests?

Both George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) are working closely with Houston Health Department, the CDC, and other federal partners to ensure the safety and health of passengers. At this time, the CDC has not identified either airport as one that will conduct additional checkpoint screenings. Both IAH and HOU have provided hand sanitizer stations in high-traffic areas, such as after TSA checkpoints, and signage communicating general hygiene best practices. The airport will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments as necessary.  Learn More.
