Sam Houston Statue Visitor Center & Gift Shop
Perched just off I-45 in Huntsville, the Sam Houston Statue — often affectionately called “Big Sam” — stands 67 feet tall atop a 10-foot granite base as a tribute to Texan and U.S. statesman Sam Houston. The monument, sculpted by David Adickes and dedicated in 1994, is recognized as the world’s tallest statue of an American hero.
The adjacent Visitor Center welcomes guests with educational exhibits, videos, maps, and helpful staff who can help you plan your visit. Inside, a well-stocked Gift Shop offers Texas-themed memorabilia, collectibles, and souvenirs to commemorate your stop. Open daily, the site provides both history and photo opportunities for travelers between Houston and Dallas.
